Gulf Daily News - 10/9/2007 - A SPECIAL report featuring the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) will be aired on BBC World's tourism and business travel show Fast Track this evening.

The report highlights the contributions the BIC has made in attracting racing tourists to the country.

It specifically features the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, as well as other BIC racing events and corporate activities that are held throughout the year.

It also brings into limelight that BIC draws racing tourists to the country to enjoy various racing experiences and to obtain their national racing licence at either Thunder Arabia or BMW schools, which can then qualify them to take part in local and international series.

The show is presented by BBC freelance reporter Maria Ramos, who is also a freelance Bahrain TV (BTV) newsreader and reporter.

"I'm very happy to promote Bahrain on an international level and it's a very proud moment in my television career to work with the BBC," said Ms Ramos about her debut report for the BBC.

"I'm in Jordan filming at the moment and hope to do more reports about Bahrain's tourism in the future.

"There are great subjects to explore regarding tourism in the Middle East as governments are putting this high on their agenda of development and Middle East airlines are becoming more competitive."

Ms Ramos, who was born in London to Spanish parents, has been working with BTV since June 2002.

She has covered local events across the country for a programme called In Focus.

Reports have included the country's first elections in 2002, laying of the first groundstone at the BIC and initial plans for the Bahrain Financial Harbour.

Ms Ramos later moved on to working as a newsreader on BTV presenting the 7 o'clock prime time news and the 11 o'clock summaries.

In early 2003, she joined Radio Bahrain 96.5 FM as a newsreader/editor. She has worked on both the TV and radio. Prior to joining BTV, Ms Ramos spent nearly two years working for the French daily Le Monde and Time magazine producing economic reports in Senegal, Madagascar, Croatia, Italy and Honduras.

The BIC BBC report will be aired at 10.30pm tonight, 12.30pm tomorrow, 6.30pm on Wednesday and 10.30am on Thursday.
